Pre-clinical Simulation Laboratories (Phantom Labs)

The pre-clinical simulation laboratories at the College of Dentistry are dedicated to preparing students for a safe and systematic transition from theoretical learning to clinical practice. We provide structured practical training in an environment that simulates real-world clinical settings, focusing on equipping students with essential manual dexterity, correct ergonomic working positions, and technical precision to ensure their clinical readiness before commencing patient treatment.

Our Vision

To be a premier educational environment that upholds the highest standards of pre-clinical dental education, contributing to the graduation of competent professionals who possess a solid foundation of practical skills and applied knowledge, enabling them to integrate into clinical practice with excellence and accountability.

  • Clinical Preparation: Preparing students for clinical practice through organized hands-on training prior to direct patient interaction.
  • Skill Development: Developing fine motor skills and enhancing precision and control over dental instruments.
  • Theory-Practice Integration: Strengthening the link between theoretical knowledge and practical application during the pre-clinical phase.
  • Ergonomic Training: Training students on correct posture and working positions for both the dentist and the patient, according to ergonomic principles.
  • Safety and Infection Control: Establishing the foundations of occupational safety and infection control protocols at an early stage of dental education.
  • Building Confidence: Fostering self-confidence and professional responsibility in students before they transition to teaching clinics.
  • Standardized Training: Unifying practical training methodologies through direct academic supervision and the use of live demonstration systems.

The Phantom Simulation Laboratories are among the fundamental educational facilities at the College of Dentistry, serving as the essential link between theoretical study and clinical application. These labs are designed to provide a realistic training environment where students can practice core dental skills within a safe and structured framework.

The college houses four simulation laboratories, each equipped with 22 phantom head units. This setup provides each student with an independent workstation for individual practice on various dental procedures, including patient positioning, instrument handling, and the application of dental ergonomics.

The laboratories are equipped with a Live Demo System, featuring high-definition cameras and modern display screens. This system broadcasts the practical steps performed by faculty members in real-time, ensuring visual clarity and the transmission of fine details, which contributes to the standardization of training methods and the quality of practical education.

The laboratories are specialized to cover key pre-clinical practical aspects as follows:

  • Conservative Dentistry Lab: For training on tooth preparation and restorative filling techniques.
  • Endodontics Lab: For training students on basic endodontic procedures and root canal management.
  • Prosthodontics Laboratories (Two Labs): For training on tooth preparation and the fabrication of dental crowns and bridges.
